There are multiple ways to discover your metabolic rate. So you can perform in the privacy and comfort of your home by yourself, and others will require a trip to your doctor. The smartest method is to set up an appointment with your doctor or health professional, and have an expert give you their opinion.
Since your thyroid gland, the small gland located towards the front of your throat, is in charge of controlling your metabolism, schedule a thyroid check-up. This could quickly reveal that you have been eating the wrong types of foods for your particular metabolism, making it virtually impossible to burn fat and lose weight no matter how hard you try.
Checking your resting pulse, or heart rate, can also give you an idea of what your metabolic rate is. You can do this at home or at your health professional’s office. A higher resting pulse means your heart is working harder than normal. This could be a problem, or simply indicate a high metabolism.
A lower resting heart rate could be the sign of a weak heart, or just a slower metabolism.
Also, you can get an idea of where your metabolic rate is simply by taking your temperature. This is not always an indicator of an excessively high or low metabolism. You should know what your natural body temperature is. 98.6 degrees is average, but your healthy body temperature could be a little higher or lower.
